A COLLEGE FOR A CHANGING WORLD

Steps to Study Abroad

  • Start planning early! Deadlines for many of the exchange programs are due as early as 9 months in advance.
  • Visit the Office of International Programs (OIP) in 304 Fairchild Hall, 532-5990, to get information about study abroad programs available to K-State students. Website: http://www.ksu.edu/oip
  • Explore the different programs, scholarships opportunities, financial aid packages and select a program(s) that is appropriate for you.
  • Find out exactly what is covered in the exchange program. Are the tuition and fees, room & board, bus pass within the city of your exchange university, etc., included in the package?
  • Obtain a contact list of other students that have completed this exchange program. Contact these students to get more information about the university, classes, place, etc
  • Submit program/scholarship/financial aid applications by stated deadline for the particular program(s).
  • Do research on what classes you can complete abroad and work with OIP advisor and your advisor in the CBA to have classes validated before you leave K-State.
  • Visit with your CBA advisor before you leave to discuss pre-enrollment, including classes you need to enroll in, enrolling online through KATS, internet access etc, for the semester you plan to return to K-State.
  • Be sure to change your local address to your permanent address so mail will be answered by someone in your absence.
  • Plan and prepare for your stay in a foreign country. Access OIP’s website to read about important ‘tips-for-travel’. Make sure to read and follow the ‘pre-departure list’ to ensure that you get a successful start on your journey. You may consider taking out supplemental insurance coverage while traveling abroad.
  • Make sure to inform your CBA advisor about contact information (address, e-mail) upon arrival in the foreign country. Also provide the CBA advisor a copy of emergency contact information prior to departure.
