Promotion of Dr. Richard Ott:
Dr. Richard L. Ott, Head of the Department of Accounting, has been promoted to the rank of full professor.
Dr. Ott came to Kansas State in 1986 and was granted tenure and promoted to associate professor in 1992. Prior to continuing his education, he was a certified teacher in Texas and taught several years at the junior high level before entering the family business in Galveston, Texas. His family owns and operates the oldest memorial establishment in Texas. He worked in the family business for eight years in sales and management before beginning work on his doctorate in 1981.
He became Interim accounting department head in 2002 and department head in 2003. He is a member of the American Accounting Association (AAA), the Kansas Society of Certified Public Accountants (KSCPA), and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
Dr. Ott has been published in the Journal of Accountancy, Journal of Accounting Education, Issues in Accounting Education, CPA Journal, Journal of Real Estate Portfolio Management, Journal of Real Estate Research, Public Finance Review, and Research on Accounting Ethics.
Richard L. Ott received his Bachelor of Arts degree in History in 1969 from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas. He received his MBA in 1980 from the University of Houston at Clear Lake City and a M.S. degree in accounting from Texas Tech University in 1982. He was awarded the Ph. D. degree in accounting from Texas Tech University in 1986. He became a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in 1989 in Kansas.
Dr. Ott is married and has two children, Liesl and Marta. His wife, Trish, teaches in the Manhattan Catholic Schools. His daughter, Liesl, is an outreach coordinator for the Tobacco Use Prevention Program at the Riley County Health Department. His daughter, Marta, is a senior majoring in marketing.
